One of the largest freshwater types of shrimp, Bamboo Shrimp are unique in their ability to change colors based on their mood and environment.

Bamboo Shrimp, also known as Singapore Flower Shrimp, are a truly fascinating species due to their lively personalities and their ability to quickly change color based on their mood and/or environment.  Their colors tend to range from tan to dark brown, but once they become comfortable in their surroundings, they often turn a vibrant red or a beautiful cerulean blue!  These are one of the largest freshwater shrimp, ranging in size from 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches.  This listing is for juvenile Bamboo Shrimp that are about 1 inch in length, so they are smaller in size than the young adult Bamboo Shrimp that come in an order from the Large Bamboo Shrimp listing.

These shrimp are known to reproduce only in saltwater (this is almost always the case).  They are easy to keep in a home freshwater aquarium, as no special equipment is needed for them to thrive.

Singapore Flower shrimp are peaceful and will get along great with any other critters in your aquarium, as long as the others aren't aggressive towards them. Like dwarf shrimp, they eat algae and leftover fish food (as well as invertebrate food pellets.)

  • pH level range: 6.5 - 8.0
  • Temperature range: 68° - 85° F (20° - 29° C)
  • Recommended Aquatic Arts tank mates: Any type of dwarf shrimp (such as Blue Velvet shrimp, Sakura Fire Red Cherry Shrimp, Neon Yellow Shrimp, etc.), various types of snails (such as Nerite Snails, Sulawesi Snails, etc.). They can also be kept with small to medium-sized, non-aggressive fish.
  • Additional notes: Care is similar to dwarf shrimp. Shrimp prefer to live in tanks with live aquatic plants (such as java moss, mermaid weed, green cabomba, etc.). This is because the shrimp like the cover that plants provide, they love to graze on the plants for algae, and the plants help keep the water clean for them.
