We are extremely proud to offer our very own Aquatic Arts Bred line of the stunning Cardinal Sulawesi Shrimp!
The Cardinal Sulawesi Shrimp is an exceptional dwarf shrimp species that is thought to be extinct in the wild. It is also fairly new to the aquarium hobby. Native to the very unique Sulawesi lake system in Indonesia, it was discovered only a few years ago and is now being bred in small numbers by expert shrimp farmers and breeders. It has become increasingly popular to aquarists in a very short period of time due to its incredible coloration, which is an overall bright red or scarlet with numerous small, white spots, as well as white antennae and front appendages.
These shrimp are young (around 1/6 inch to 3/4 inch in length), but will grow up to be 1 inch on average as fully grown adults. Young shrimp will ship and acclimate better to your aquarium. Just be weary when adding them to a tank with fish as some fish may find these young shrimp as food.
Some of the younger shrimp have not reached their full potential yet and will become brighter in color as long as they are comfortable in the tank. Lower intensity lighting and dark substrate also helps them achieve the brightest coloration.
While it is a completely peaceful and very small dwarf shrimp, the Cardinal Sulawesi Shrimp requires a few different water conditions than most other dwarf shrimp and should only be kept by the experienced, dedicated aquarist. The aquarium should mimic Sulawesi conditions, especially a high temperature of 78° - 88° F and a pH of 7.8 - 8.2, although some breeders have reported success with a pH as low as 7.0. We keep our specimens at a pH of 7.8 - 8.2. Water flow must be very calm and water changes should be kept to a minimum other than the replacement of evaporated water. Both adults and fry require full freshwater.
This shrimp is a scavenger and is very useful in planted and nano aquariums. The bulk of its diet is biofilm, algae, and decaying plant matter so it will work diligently to clean up the waste in any aquarium. It feeds constantly, so it displays constant activity. The Cardinal Sulawesi Shrimp particularly likes to pick biofilm from rockwork and, if present, the shells of Sulawesi snails. This shrimp requires very little or no supplemental feeding in a well-established aquarium.
The Cardinal Sulawesi Shrimp is more challenging to keep than many other dwarf shrimp, but will thrive and breed readily when kept in optimal conditions.

Shipping Schedule for this service
Current Handling Time:
1-9 business days
Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
