The original Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) originates from freshwater streams, ponds, and slow-moving waterways throughout parts of South America and the Caribbean. This selectively bred Yellow Leopard variety was developed in captivity to emphasize its vibrant yellow coloration and intricate leopard-patterned finnage.
The Yellow Leopard Guppy thrives in planted aquariums with open swimming areas balanced by dense vegetation and natural structure. Their bright yellow coloration becomes especially vivid when housed over darker substrates and surrounded by rich green aquatic plants.
Plants such as Guppy Grass, Java Moss, Water Sprite, Rotala, and floating plants provide natural cover while encouraging more confident behavior. Driftwood, smooth river stones, and Aquatic Arts botanicals help create layered texture that mimics the calm, plant-filled environments guppies naturally prefer.
This variety works exceptionally well in nano aquariums, nature-style aquascapes, and peaceful community tanks focused on movement and color contrast.
Yellow Leopard Guppies are opportunistic omnivores that eagerly accept a wide variety of prepared and live foods. A balanced diet consisting of high-quality flakes, micro pellets, frozen foods, and occasional live foods helps maintain strong coloration, finnage development, and long-term health.
Supplemental feedings of baby brine shrimp, microworms, daphnia, and other small live foods can help encourage breeding behavior and improve overall activity levels.

This peaceful guppy variety is well suited for freshwater community aquariums containing other small, non-aggressive fish. Excellent tank mates include rasboras, peaceful tetras, Corydoras catfish, kuhli loaches, ricefish, small rainbowfish, and other livebearers.
Avoid aggressive fin nippers or large predatory fish that may stress or injure guppies.
Because of their active nature and flowing finnage, Yellow Leopard Guppies perform best in aquariums designed around peaceful community species.
Adult shrimp are generally compatible with Yellow Leopard Guppies in established planted aquariums. However, newly born shrimplets may occasionally be preyed upon, especially in sparsely decorated tanks.
Dense mosses, floating plants, and fine-leaved vegetation help improve shrimplet survival by creating natural shelter and grazing areas.
Like most guppies, the Yellow Leopard Guppy is a livebearing species that reproduces readily in freshwater aquariums. Females give birth to free-swimming fry rather than laying eggs.
Breeding pairs can often produce fry regularly in stable aquariums with warm temperatures, quality feeding, and dense plant coverage. Floating plants and mosses greatly improve fry survival rates by offering shelter during early development.
Pair options are ideal for hobbyists interested in breeding projects or colony development.

Shipping Schedule for this service
Current Handling Time:
1-9 business days
Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
