Product Description
The Tequila Sunrise Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is a vibrant and colorful fish, boasting shades of orange, yellow, and red that resemble a summer sunset. Hardy and adaptable, Tequila Sunrise Guppies are easy to care for and thrive in community aquariums, bringing a splash of color and activity to any setup.
What We Love About This Fish:
- Brilliant Sunset Colors: Bold hues of orange, yellow, and red make them a standout in any tank.
- Lively and Active: Adds constant motion and energy to community aquariums.
- Hardy and Adaptable: Perfect for beginners, they are resilient and easy to care for.
- Social Schooling Fish: They thrive in groups, enhancing the visual appeal of the tank.
Natural Habitat and Behavior
In the wild, guppies are found in slow-moving waters of South America, often in rivers, streams, and ponds. They are naturally resilient and can adapt to a variety of water conditions. In the aquarium, Tequila Sunrise Guppies are social, active swimmers that enjoy exploring their environment. They are best kept in groups and make a great addition to peaceful community tanks.
Aquascaping and Tank Setup
Tequila Sunrise Guppies thrive in a well-planted tank with open swimming areas. Plants like Anacharis, Java Moss, and Hornwort provide cover and resting places, while also creating a natural environment. A soft substrate, such as fine gravel or sand, helps create a safe habitat for these delicate fish. They appreciate gentle water flow and areas of shade created by floating plants.
Using rocks, driftwood, or other decorations can create hiding spots that reduce stress and encourage natural behavior.
Diet and Feeding
Tequila Sunrise Guppies are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet. They readily accept high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen foods like daphnia and brine shrimp. For optimal health and coloration, provide a balanced diet that includes both protein-rich foods and vegetable matter, such as spirulina flakes. Their diet variety also makes them helpful in controlling small algae growth in the aquarium.
Tank Mates and Compatibility
Tequila Sunrise Guppies are peaceful fish and do well with other non-aggressive species in a community tank. Ideal tank mates include tetras, corydoras, rasboras, and other small, peaceful fish. Avoid pairing them with larger, aggressive fish that may nip their fins. Keeping guppies in groups enhances their social behavior and adds lively movement to the tank.
Are these Fish Shrimp Safe?
Tequila Sunrise Guppies are generally considered shrimp-safe, making them compatible with dwarf shrimp species like Cherry Shrimp and Amano Shrimp. While guppies may occasionally nibble on very small or baby shrimp, they are unlikely to harm adult shrimp in a well-established tank with ample hiding spaces. Providing plenty of plants and cover can create a safe environment for shrimp to thrive alongside your guppies.

Shipping Schedule for this service
Current Handling Time:
1-9 business days
Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
Shipping Rate
Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
