The Rosy Barb (Puntius conchonius) is a vibrant and active freshwater fish known for its shimmering rose-gold coloration and playful schooling behavior. These tank-bred specimens are hardy, adaptable, and perfect for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Males typically display a more intense red coloration, especially during breeding, while females are a softer gold-silver tone. Their energetic swimming and group dynamics make them a favorite in community tanks.

What We Love About This Fish:

• Brilliant Coloration: Males glow with rosy-red hues, especially in clean, well-fed tanks.
Hardy and Adaptable: Great for beginners and tolerant of a wide range of water conditions.
Active Schooling Behavior: Fun to watch in groups of 5 or more.
Peaceful, Yet Lively: Compatible with many other community fish species.

Natural Habitat:
Native to South Asia, Rosy Barbs are typically found in clear, slow-moving rivers, streams, and ponds. They thrive in well-oxygenated waters with vegetation and open swimming areas.

Aquascaping:
Plants: Vallisneria, Java Fern, Hornwort, and Water Wisteria are ideal.
Hardscape: Use smooth stones, driftwood, and open swimming space for active schooling.
Botanicals: Indian Almond Leaves or alder cones can be added to promote natural behavior and enrich water conditions. Aquatic Arts Botanical Combo Pack along with AquaZen Botanical packs are a great way to get a variety of leave litter to explore in your aquarium.

Diet and Feeding:
Rosy Barbs are omnivores and will readily accept high-quality flake food, micro pellets, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, or bloodworms. A varied diet enhances their coloration and vitality.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:
These barbs are peaceful but energetic. Best kept with similarly sized and active fish like Danios, Rainbowfish, Rasboras, and larger Tetras. Avoid long-finned or slow-moving tank mates like Bettas, which may be stressed by their high activity.

Shrimp Safe:
Not recommended for tanks with dwarf shrimp, as they may nip or eat smaller shrimp. They can coexist with larger Amano shrimp and adult snails in a well-decorated tank.

Breeding:
Rosy Barbs are egg scatterers and will breed readily in a separate spawning tank. Provide fine-leaved plants or spawning mops. Adults should be removed after spawning to prevent them from eating the eggs.

Recommended Tank Parameters:
Temperature: 64° - 75° F (17.7° - 23.8° C)
pH: 6.5 – 7.5
KH: 4 – 10 dKH
Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons

Care Guidelines:
Diet: Omnivorous—feed a varied diet for best color and health.
Social Behavior: Active and social; best in schools of 5 or more.
Origin: Tank-Bred
Average Adult Size: 2.5 – 3 inches (6.4 – 7.6 cm)
Average Purchase Size: 1 – 1.5 inches (2.5 – 3.8 cm)

A lively and colorful addition to any community tank, the Rosy Barb is an excellent choice for aquarists looking for an energetic and resilient fish that thrives in groups.

Shipping Schedule for this service

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
