The Red Dragon Plakat Betta is a vibrant and powerful variation of Betta splendens, distinguished by its shorter fins and bold, intense coloration. With a striking mix of deep red body tones and shimmering dragon-scale patterns, the Red Dragon Plakat is an eye-catching addition to any aquarium. Its Plakat (short-finned) form gives it greater agility, making it more active and energetic compared to its long-finned counterparts.

Each Betta fish we offer is truly one of a kind, with unique colors and patterns that make no two alike. The fish photographed in our listings are examples of the stunning Betta you could receive, though not the exact fish. When you buy from us, you're getting a living work of art.

What We Love About This Fish:

  • Vibrant red coloration with dazzling dragon-scale patterns that catch the light.
  • Peaceful toward non-aggressive species, but best kept with no other bettas.
  • Hardy and adaptable to a range of water conditions.
  • Highly active and agile due to its short fins, often seen swimming energetically.

Natural Habitat:

Native to the shallow, slow-moving waters of Southeast Asia, Bettas are found in rice paddies, ponds, and slow-moving streams. These environments are rich in plant life and have little water flow, creating an ideal habitat for their bubble-nesting behavior during breeding.

Aquascaping:

  • Plants: Suitable plants include Java Fern, Anubias, Bucephalandra, and Marimo Moss Balls to provide cover and soft resting spots.
  • Hardscape: Use smooth stones or driftwood, such as Malaysian Driftwood, to create natural territorial markers and hiding places.
  • Botanicals: Indian Almond Leaves can be added to promote health and mimic their natural tannin-rich environment.

Diet and Feeding:

Red Dragon Plakat Bettas are carnivores and require a protein-rich diet. Feed high-quality betta pellets or flakes daily, and offer occasional treats like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia to enhance coloration and health.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Bettas prefer to be housed alone or with peaceful tank mates like snails or small, non-aggressive fish such as Corydoras catfish or neon tetras. Avoid fin-nipping species and never house male bettas together.

Shrimp Safe:

Red Dragon Plakat Bettas are not shrimp safe, as they may prey on both adult shrimp and shrimp fry.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

  • Temperature: 75-80°F (24-27°C)
  • pH: 6.8 - 7.5
  • KH: 2-5 dKH
  • Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons

Care Guidelines:

  • Diet: Feed high-protein pellets or flakes daily, with occasional live or frozen food treats.
  • Social Behavior: Best kept alone or in a community tank with peaceful, non-aggressive species. Male Bettas should not be housed together.
  • Origin: Tank-bred, ensuring hardiness and adaptability to aquarium life.
  • Average Adult Size: 2.5-3 inches
  • Average Purchase Size: 1.5-2 inches

Shipping Schedule for this service

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
