The Platinum Longfin Short body Koi is a dazzling, all-white koi variety known for its shimmering metallic sheen and uniquely compact body shape. A type of koi that reaches a smaller adult size compared to standard koi, these fish typically grow to just 6–8 inches long. While they share the same graceful fins and body structure as standard butterfly koi, their defining feature is a shorter, more compact body, giving them a charming and distinct look. These tank-raised specimens are currently 3+ inches in size and perfect for growing out in a pond or large aquarium.
What We Love About This Fish:
• Brilliant Platinum White Body: Glows under natural or aquarium lighting
• Elegant Long Fins: Flowing fins add beauty and motion to any setup
• Compact Size: Short body koi are ideal for hobbyists with smaller ponds or indoor tanks
• Cold-Water Hardy: Suitable for year-round pond life in many climates
Natural Habitat:
Though koi are fully domesticated, they originate from wild carp in Eurasian rivers and lakes. Short body koi, like this variety, are selectively bred for their compact form and manageable size, making them perfect for ornamental setups without the need for massive pond space.
Aquascaping:
• Plants: Water Lettuce, Hornwort, Anacharis (ensure durability against nibbling)
• Hardscape: Rounded river rocks, submerged driftwood, shaded hiding zones
• Botanicals: Optional—these koi prefer open space for swimming over heavy botanicals
Diet and Feeding:
These koi are enthusiastic omnivores. Provide a high-quality koi pellet as the staple diet, supplemented with fresh greens, fruits, and occasional frozen foods like bloodworms. Feed more frequently in warmer months when activity increases.
Tank Mates and Compatibility:
Best kept with other koi or large, peaceful pond fish. Their peaceful nature and similar care requirements make them perfect companions for standard or longfin koi.
Not Shrimp Safe:
Not recommended for tanks with shrimp or small inverts. Koi are opportunistic feeders and may eat small tankmates.
Outdoor Pond & Water Feature Compatibility:
Perfect for outdoor water gardens and backyard ponds. Shortbody koi are ideal for medium-sized ponds where full-grown standard koi may outgrow the space. Their hardy nature and eye-catching fins shine in well-maintained environments with calm water and seasonal stability.
Breeding:
Breeds in spring under the right conditions. Females scatter adhesive eggs among aquatic plants or spawning mops. Remove adults post-spawn if fry are to be raised.
Recommended Tank Parameters:
• Temperature: 50° - 77°F (10° - 25°C)
• pH: 7.0 - 8.0
• KH: 4 - 12 dKH
• Minimum Tank Size: 75 gallons for juveniles; at least 300–500 gallons for adults (less than standard koi due to smaller adult size)
Care Guidelines:
• Diet: Omnivorous; requires a balanced pellet-based diet with fresh treats
• Social Behavior: Peaceful, best in groups
• Origin: Tank-Raised
• Average Adult Size: 6 – 8 inches
• Average Purchase Size: 3+ inches
• Body Shape Note: They have the same body shape and fins as standard koi, but they are shorter and more compact overall.
A Smaller Koi with Big Presence!
The Platinum Longfin Shortbody Koi offers all the grace and beauty of traditional koi—just in a more compact size. Perfect for hobbyists who want showpiece koi without the need for enormous pond space.

Shipping Schedule for this service
Current Handling Time:
1-9 business days
Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
Shipping Rate
Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
