The Blue Tail Borneo Loach (Gastromyzon ornaticauda) is a beautiful, wild-collected species known for its unique appearance and fascinating behavior. Native to the fast-flowing rivers of Borneo, this loach features a striking blue tail and intricate body patterns, making it a standout addition to any aquarium. Its flattened body and sucker-like mouth are specially adapted for clinging to rocks in swift currents, making this loach a perfect choice for well-aerated, river-style tanks.

What We Love About This Fish:

  • Stunning Blue Tail: A vibrant blue tail sets this loach apart from other species.
  • Hardy and Peaceful: Well-suited for community tanks with other non-aggressive fish.
  • Natural Algae Grazer: Helps maintain a clean aquarium by grazing on algae and biofilm.
  • Unique Behavior: Known for its active and engaging nature, often seen gliding across tank surfaces.

Natural Habitat and Aquascaping:

Blue Tail Borneo Loaches are found in fast-flowing, oxygen-rich rivers. To recreate their natural environment, provide strong water movement, plenty of rocks, and driftwood for hiding and grazing. Dense plant cover and smooth stones are ideal for mimicking their native habitat.

Diet and Feeding:

An omnivorous grazer, the Blue Tail Borneo Loach thrives on a varied diet of sinking algae wafers, blanched vegetables (such as zucchini or spinach), and occasional treats of live or frozen foods like bloodworms and daphnia. A diverse diet will enhance their coloration and overall health.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

This loach is peaceful and best kept with other small, non-aggressive species. Ideal tank mates include rasboras, small tetras, and other gentle bottom dwellers. Avoid pairing them with larger or aggressive fish that may cause stress.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

Shipping Schedule for this service

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
