Natural Habitat:

Wild Betta splendens originate from Southeast Asia, living in shallow waters such as rice paddies, canals, and slow-moving streams. The Giant Multicolor Plakat is a selectively bred variety developed in captivity for size, color, and strength.

Aquascaping:

• Plants: Broad-leaved plants such as Anubias and Java Fern provide natural resting places where bettas can perch close to the surface. Floating plants like Frogbit or Water Lettuce diffuse lighting and help replicate their shaded natural habitats, reducing stress while giving them a sense of security.
• Hardscape: Use smooth driftwood, river stones, or betta-specific caves to create territories and shelter. Avoid sharp or rough decorations that could damage their fins.
• Botanicals: Indian Almond Leaves, alder cones, and catappa bark enrich the water with tannins, lower stress, and support overall health while mimicking their natural Southeast Asian waters.

Diet and Feeding:

Primarily carnivorous, these bettas thrive on high-protein foods. Offer a staple of quality betta pellets, with regular feedings of live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia to maintain color and vitality.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Male bettas should be housed singly. Female sororities are possible with careful monitoring. In larger setups, peaceful bottom dwellers such as Corydoras or snails may coexist, but avoid aggressive or fin-nipping fish.

Shrimp Compatibility:

Not shrimp compatible. Bettas may prey on both adult shrimp and shrimp fry.

Breeding:

Tank-bred bettas will often display bubble-nesting behavior. Males care for the eggs until hatching, but breeding requires dedicated setups to ensure safety for both parents.
