Assorted Chocolate Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) – BREDBY: Aquatic Arts
- In stock, ready to ship
- Backordered, shipping soon
Our Assorted Chocolate Shrimp are a rich and earthy in-house variant of Neocaridina davidi, featuring deep chocolate brown tones mixed with occasional cherry red and blue hues. No two shrimp are exactly alike—some display solid dark brown, while others show iridescent undertones or streaks of warm or cool color. Every Shrimp is unique and has beautiful coloration. This natural variety makes them an excellent choice for aquarists who appreciate subtle color gradients and a more organic look in planted or natural-style aquascapes.
Bred by our team here at Aquatic Arts, these shrimp are raised in optimal conditions to ensure health, hardiness, and color stability. They are active grazers that help manage algae and biofilm, all while adding beauty and charm to your aquarium.
What We Love About These Shrimp:
• Beautiful Natural Variation: Deep chocolate tones with possible hints of cherry or blue.
• BRED BY: Aquatic Arts: Healthy, well-established genetics and vibrant color.
• Excellent Algae Grazers: Constantly clean plant leaves, hardscape, and substrate.
• Hardy and Easy to Keep: Perfect for beginners or colony builders.
Natural Habitat:
While the Neocaridina species originates from freshwater streams in Taiwan and southern Asia, this Chocolate variant is a selectively bred line created in captivity. These shrimp are adapted to life in planted aquariums and thrive in mature systems with biofilm and stable water parameters.
Aquascaping:
• Plants: Mosses like Java Moss or Christmas Moss are ideal for grazing. Add Anubias, Bucephalandra, and Cryptocoryne for cover.
• Hardscape: Shrimp love textured surfaces like lava rock, driftwood, and cholla wood.
• Botanicals: Indian Almond Leaves and alder cones provide tannins and biofilm-friendly surfaces while helping maintain water quality.
Diet and Feeding:
These shrimp are omnivorous scavengers that thrive on a varied diet. Feed high-quality shrimp pellets, Snowflake food (soybean hulls), and pollen granules. Supplement with blanched vegetables (like zucchini or spinach) and occasional protein treats such as bloodworms or baby brine shrimp.
Tank Mates and Compatibility:
Chocolate Shrimp are peaceful and do best with other dwarf shrimp or similarly sized, non-aggressive tank mates. Compatible species include snails, rasboras, small tetras, and Corydoras. Avoid larger or predatory fish such as cichlids or gouramis.
Shrimp Safe:
Yes – perfectly shrimp safe when kept with proper tank mates. Also safe in mixed Neocaridina colonies, though color mixing may occur over time.
Breeding:
Very easy to breed in a stable tank with good water quality. Females carry eggs beneath their tails until hatching. Young shrimp will remain in the tank if plenty of moss or cover is available. Breeding may produce a mix of chocolate and related colors over time.

Shipping Schedule for this service
Current Handling Time:
1-9 business days
Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
Shipping Rate
Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
