Adiantum Philippense with Vesicularia Dubyana (Java Moss) on Wood – Perfect for Vampire Crab Habitats
Description:
Elevate your aquarium, paludarium, or terrarium with the stunning combination of Adiantum Philippense aka (Walking maidenhair fern, Black maidenhair, and Philippine maidenhair) and Vesicularia Dubyana (Java Moss), expertly mounted on natural wood. This pairing offers a beautiful and functional design, providing a natural aesthetic that is ideal for tropical setups and particularly well-suited for vampire crab habitats. The delicate, feathery fronds of Adiantum contrast with the soft, lush growth of Java Moss, creating a versatile and striking focal point. The natural wood serves as both a decorative element and a perfect surface for the plants to attach and thrive.
Key Features:
- Perfect for Vampire Crabs: This arrangement provides dense cover and hiding spots, creating a safe and natural environment for vampire crabs to explore, climb, and retreat.
- Natural Aesthetic: The combination of fern and moss on wood mimics a lush forest floor, making it ideal for paludariums or terrariums with land and water elements.
- Versatile Use: Whether submerged in an aquarium or kept in a humid terrarium, this plant arrangement is suitable for a wide range of environments.
- Low Maintenance: Java Moss is highly resilient, and Adiantum Philippense thrives in moist conditions, making both plants easy to care for.
- Functional Decoration: The wood provides a stable base and adds verticality to your setup, making it perfect for both aquatic and semi-aquatic environments.
Care Guidelines:
- Temperature: Adiantum Philippense prefers 60°F to 75°F (15°C to 24°C), while Java Moss thrives in a range of 59°F to 82°F (15°C to 28°C). These temperature ranges are ideal for vampire crabs as well.
- Lighting: Moderate, indirect light for Adiantum, and low to moderate light for Java Moss. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn on the fern.
- Humidity: High humidity levels (60-80%) are ideal for Adiantum in paludariums or terrariums. Java Moss will thrive fully submerged in water or in high-humidity environments.
- Water Parameters: Java Moss is very adaptable and can grow in a wide range of water conditions, with a pH range of 6.0-7.5 being optimal.
Maintenance:
- Trimming: Regular trimming of the Adiantum keeps it healthy and prevents overgrowth, while Java Moss can be pruned to maintain its shape.
- Cleaning: Gently clean the Java Moss to remove any debris or algae. It also improves water quality by absorbing nutrients, making it perfect for aquariums.
- Fertilization: Use slow-release fertilizers sparingly for Adiantum in terrariums. In aquariums, supplement with liquid fertilizers every few weeks.
Benefits for Vampire Crabs:
- Shelter and Hiding Spots: The dense foliage of Adiantum combined with the lush growth of Java Moss creates a natural refuge for vampire crabs, allowing them to feel safe and secure.
- Climbing Surfaces: The wood provides an excellent surface for vampire crabs to climb, exploring the elevated landscape while benefiting from the plant coverage.
- Water Quality Improvement: Java Moss helps maintain water quality by absorbing excess nutrients, which is especially beneficial for setups with vampire crabs that have both land and water areas.
Compatibility:
- Aquariums: Ideal for freshwater aquariums, providing shelter and hiding spots for shrimp, small fish, or vampire crabs.
- Terrariums/Paludariums: Perfect for tropical or semi-aquatic environments where vampire crabs or other amphibians thrive.
Light Requirements:
Adiantum Philippense thrives in medium, indirect light, while Java Moss prefers low to moderate lighting.

Current Handling Time:

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
