Mermaid Weed is hailed as one of the most beautiful freshwater plants available due to its intricate-looking leaves and vivid coloration!

Mermaid Weed, also known as Saw-Tooth Hygro, has the potential to make a dramatic statement in any tank in which it is planted. Its leaves start out a vibrant green color with choppy, serrated edges. When allowed to grow under high-intensity lighting, the leaves will become more bristle-like, resembling tiny, delicate combs. Additionally, the leaves will gradually change from just green to a variety of pink and golden hues. This plant will certainly add a pop of color to your tank!

This plant is considered moderately difficult to grow and maintain, so it may not be ideal for beginning aquatic plant enthusiasts. If kept under insufficient lighting and/or water lacking in nutrients, Mermaid Weed tends to shed its leaves.  Carbon dioxide injection is highly recommended for this plant to truly thrive.

Mermaid Weed grows at a moderate to slow pace, so pruning doesn't need to be done too often.  When needed, this plant should be pruned and progagated much like other stem plants. The plant grows in shoots that can be trimmed and replanted into your substrate. The vibrant tops of the stems can be cut off and replanted to spread the colorful parts of the plant around. The stem bottoms can be thrown out or left in the substrate to give the plant a more bushy texture.

This listing is for the tissue culture form of Mermaid Weed. Tissue cultures are superior to traditional forms of aquarium plants in many ways. They are produced in a completely sterile environment which eliminates the possibility of them carrying pest snails or algae spores. They have a shelf life (before introduction to the aquarium) of several months if properly maintained and they are housed in a nutrient gel until introduced to the aquarium. To introduce a tissue culture plant to the aquarium, simply rinse off as much nutrient gel as possible, then plant as usual. The nutrient gel will not harm your aquarium.

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
