Araguaia is a unique Hygrophila species and variety whose reddish leaves and bushy growth are ideal for the midground of the aquarium!

Araguaia Hygro (Hygrophila lancea "Araguaia") is a unique and very nice-looking species that is somewhat less common than many of its relatives. In the aquarium, it is most desired for its reddish leaves and bushy growth and is most often used in the midground of the aquarium. In larger aquariums with taller plants, it can also be used in the foreground. While it is a stem plant, Araguaia Hygro exhibits creeping growth unlike most of its close relatives, but it can also be trimmed and replanted like most stem plants. It will grow both emersed and submersed, so it is an excellent plant for aquariums and paludariums alike.

Araguaia Hygro is a relatively easy plant to maintain, though it has a few more requirements than many Hygrophila species. It does not absolutely require CO2 supplementation, but such supplementation is recommended for optimal appearance and health. It will look its best under high lighting. It can be pruned and cuttings can be replanted for propagation. Due to the thin texture of its leaves, Araguaia Hygro is not suitable for aquariums with destructive animals such as crayfish, large cichlids, or goldfish. It should be pruned regularly to maintain its bushy appearance.

Like most plants, Araguaia Hygro will benefit from supplementation such as Seachem Flourish, Flourish Excel, nitrogen, and other plant supplements.

This listing is for the tissue culture form of Araguaia Hygro. Tissue cultures are superior to traditional forms of aquarium plants in many ways. They are produced in a completely sterile environment which eliminates the possibility of them carrying pest snails or algae spores. They have a shelf life (before introduction to the aquarium) of several months if properly maintained and they are housed in a nutrient gel until introduced to the aquarium. To introduce a tissue culture plant to the aquarium, simply rinse off as much nutrient gel as possible, then plant as usual. The nutrient gel will not harm your aquarium.

Packaging may vary. Tissue Culture plants may arrive in bag or cup form.

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
