The Phoenix Tetra is a beautiful and rare addition to any aquarium, known for its vibrant colors and peaceful nature.

Description:

The Phoenix Tetra (Hemigrammus filamentosus) is a captivating freshwater fish that stands out with its brilliant, fiery colors. This species is tank-bred, making it a hardy and adaptable choice for home aquariums. Known for their peaceful disposition and schooling behavior, Phoenix Tetras are a fantastic choice for community tanks.

These tetras typically swim in the middle levels of the water column and thrive in well-planted aquariums. Their vivid red and orange hues can create a stunning visual effect, especially when kept in groups. A school of Phoenix Tetras can transform any aquarium into a lively, dynamic display.

What We Like About This Fish:

- Vibrant Coloration: Brilliant red and orange hues that stand out.
- Peaceful Nature: Suitable for community tanks.
- Active and Noticeable: Adds dynamic movement to the aquarium.
- Ideal for Planted Aquariums: Enhances the aesthetic of planted setups.

Aquascaping:

Phoenix Tetras are perfect for aquascaped tanks. Their fiery colors contrast beautifully with lush green plants and dark substrates. Consider using plants like Java Fern, Anubias, Ludwigia Repens, and Bacopa Caroliniana to create a vibrant environment. Floating plants such as Amazon Frogbit or Salvinia provide cover and enhance their natural habitat, promoting their best coloration and behavior.

Shrimp Compatible:

Phoenix Tetras are generally peaceful and can coexist with larger, peaceful invertebrates. However, they may prey on small shrimp. Ensure plenty of hiding spaces for shrimp to minimize risk and maintain a harmonious tank environment.

Diet:

Phoenix Tetras are omnivorous and thrive on a varied diet. High-quality flake food, micro pellets, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms will be readily accepted. A varied diet helps maintain their vibrant color and overall health.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

- Temperature: 72° - 82° F (22° - 28° C)
- pH: 5.5 - 7.5 (prefers slightly acidic water)
- KH: 2 - 10 dKH
- Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons

Care Guidelines:

- Diet: Omnivorous. Will easily accept high-quality dry and frozen foods.
- Social Behavior: Peaceful, schooling/shoaling.
- Origin: Tank-bred, originally from South America.
- Average Adult Size: 1.5 - 2 inches (3.8 - 5 cm)
- Average Purchase Size: 1/2 - 1 inch (1.3 - 2.5 cm)

Botanicals:

Incorporating botanicals such as Indian Almond Leaves, Catappa Bark, and Alder Cones can enrich the aquarium environment for Phoenix Tetras. These botanicals release beneficial tannins and humic substances, which can help create a more natural, acidic habitat. They also provide additional hiding spots and grazing areas, promoting natural behavior and enhancing the overall health of your fish.

Shipping Schedule for this service

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
