Introduce elegance and grace to your aquarium with the captivating Bloodfin Tetra (Aphyocharax anisitsi)! These tank-bred beauties boast a mesmerizing display of red fins against a silver body, adding a touch of sophistication to any aquatic setup.

Bloodfin Tetras typically swim in the middle to upper regions of the aquarium. They tend to occupy the mid-level of the tank, swimming in schools or groups, showcasing their vibrant colors and engaging in graceful movements within this part of the water column.

Thriving in well-maintained tanks with ample hiding spots and moderate lighting, Blood Fin Tetras are relatively easy to care for. Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature range of 72°F to 78°F (22°C to 26°C) and a slightly acidic to neutral pH level between 6.0 to 7.5.

Their diet consists of high-quality flake food, supplemented with small live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or bloodworms. This ensures their health and brings out their natural coloration.
Blood Fin Tetras might consume small freshwater invertebrates, especially if they are small enough to fit in their mouths. While they are primarily omnivorous and mainly feed on flake foods, they can exhibit opportunistic behavior and may nibble on tiny invertebrates like small aquatic insects or larvae if they come across them in the tank.

With their striking red fins and serene demeanor, these tank-bred Blood Fin Tetras make a delightful addition to both beginner and seasoned aquarists' collections. Bring home these captivating tetras and add a touch of refinement to your aquatic world!

What We Like About This Fish:
  • Striking Red Fins: The vivid red fins against their silver bodies create a stunning visual contrast, adding a touch of elegance to any aquarium.

  • Peaceful Nature: Known for their calm demeanor, these tetras make fantastic community fish, thriving alongside various tank mates in a harmonious environment.

  • Graceful Schooling Behavior: Their schooling behavior is not just visually captivating but also displays their social nature, as they swim together in harmony, showcasing their beauty as a collective group.

  • Easy Care Requirements: With relatively undemanding care needs, Blood Fin Tetras are perfect for both beginners and experienced aquarists, offering a rewarding and low-maintenance aquatic experience.

RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS:
  • Temperature: Maintain a consistent temperature between 72°F to 78°F (22°C to 26°C). These tetras thrive in tropical water conditions.

  • pH: Aim for a slightly acidic to neutral pH level ranging from 6.0 to 7.5. Keeping the pH within this range ensures their comfort and health.

  • KH (Carbonate Hardness): Blood Fin Tetras prefer a moderate carbonate hardness level between 2 to 10 dKH (36 to 180 ppm).

  • Minimum Tank Size: Provide a minimum tank size of 10 gallons (38 liters) for a small group of Blood Fin Tetras. However, larger tanks are preferred, as they provide more swimming space and accommodate larger schools, promoting their natural schooling behavior and overall well-being.

Bloodfin Tetras are peaceful and social fish that can thrive alongside various tank mates. Here are some compatible companions:

  1. Other Tetras: Species like Neon Tetras, Ember Tetras, or Rummy Nose Tetras share similar water parameter preferences and peaceful dispositions, making them great tank mates.

  2. Small Rasboras: Fish such as Harlequin Rasboras or Chili Rasboras coexist peacefully with Blood Fin Tetras due to their non-aggressive nature and similar care requirements.

  3. Corydoras Catfish: Peaceful bottom-dwellers like Corydoras Catfish not only add activity to the lower regions of the tank but also complement the tetras' peaceful temperament.

  4. Small Dwarf Cichlids: Certain species of Dwarf Cichlids like Apistogramma or German Blue Rams can be suitable tank mates, especially in larger tanks, if kept with caution and provided with adequate hiding spaces.

CARE GUIDELINES:
  • Diet: Bloodfin Tetras are omnivores. They thrive on a diet consisting of high-quality flake food as a staple. Supplement their diet with occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, or daphnia to promote optimal health and vibrant colors.

  • Social behavior: These tetras are peaceful and social fish that prefer to be in groups. They showcase their best behavior and colors when kept in schools of six or more. They coexist well with other peaceful species and enjoy swimming together, displaying their vibrant fins.

  • Origin: While tank-bred, Bloodfin Tetras originate from South America. Their wild counterparts are indigenous to this region, particularly in river basins of countries like Argentina and Paraguay. Tank-bred specimens retain the traits of their wild counterparts but are bred in controlled environments for aquarium enthusiasts.

  • Average Adult Size: Bloodfin Tetras typically reach an average size of 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 to 3.8 cm) when fully matured. Their small size makes them suitable for smaller to medium-sized aquariums.

  • Average Purchase Size: When purchased, these tetras are usually small, ranging from 1/4 to 1 inch (0.6 to 2.5 cm) in length. They'll grow steadily under proper care and a suitable environment, showcasing their vibrant red fins as they mature.

    Current Handling Time:

    1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
