The Hi Fin Yellow Variatus Platy is a graceful, eye-catching livebearer that combines the natural hardiness of the Variatus Platy with a bright golden-yellow body and an extended dorsal fin that adds flowing elegance to any aquarium. Bred locally for exceptional health and adaptability, these peaceful fish are perfect for community tanks and planted aquariums.

What We Love About This Fish:

• Striking Yellow Coloration: Vibrant body color brings warmth and brightness to your tank.
Elegant Hi Fin Trait: The extended dorsal fin adds a graceful, sail-like presence.
Peaceful and Hardy: Excellent for beginners and great in community setups.
Locally Bred: Raised in our region for better acclimation and reduced environmental impact.

Natural Habitat:

Native to the rivers and streams of Mexico and Central America, Variatus Platies are typically found in slow-moving, plant-rich waters with stable parameters and ample sunlight. These fish were bred locally.

Aquascaping:

• Plants: Thrive among Anubias, Hornwort, Bacopa, and Java Fern.
Hardscape: Add natural driftwood and smooth stones for structure and visual interest.
Botanicals: Enhance their environment with our Aquatic Arts Botanical Combo Pack—a curated selection of natural leaves, seed pods, and bark that help support healthy microbiology and mimic their natural habitat.

Diet and Feeding:

This omnivorous platy enjoys a diverse diet. Feed a balanced mix of high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with blanched vegetables and occasional live or frozen foods like daphnia or brine shrimp. For premium nutrition and vibrant color, we recommend Ultra Fresh Veggie Shrimp Pie, an ideal daily food for livebearers.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Hi Fin Yellow Variatus Platies are peaceful and do well with other livebearers, tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and snails. Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.

Shrimp Safe:

Generally safe with adult shrimp. Fry may be at risk unless the tank is heavily planted or contains ample hiding spaces.

Breeding:

As livebearers, they breed readily in home aquariums. Provide dense plants or spawning mops to protect fry from predation. Raising in a separate nursery tank increases survival rates.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

• Temperature: 68° - 78° F (20° - 25.5° C)
• pH: 7.0 - 8.2
• KH: 6 - 12 dKH
• Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons

Care Guidelines:

• Diet: Omnivorous; needs a variety of plant- and protein-based foods
• Social Behavior: Peaceful; best in small groups
• Origin: Locally bred
• Average Adult Size: 2 – 2.5 inches (5 – 6.3 cm)
• Average Purchase Size: 1 – 1.5 inches (2.5 – 3.8 cm)

Shipping Schedule for this service

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
