The Three Spot Forest Halfbeak is a very rare nano species that has a very attractive appearance and is a wonderful top-dweller for the nano and planted community aquarium!

The Three Spot Forest Halfbeak (Hemirhamphodon kuekenthali) is a very rare and interesting oddball species that is excellent for the nano or planted aquarium. It is reportedly a livebearing species, unlike many egg-laying relatives of its genus. This fish is a nearly exclusive surface dweller, so it is a great choice to occupy the upper level of the aquarium. It is a somewhat gregarious species and it will shoal when kept in groups, although males can be territorial with one another in smaller aquaria. This fish is completely peaceful with other species.

The Three Spot Forest Halfbeak is native to calm waterways with lots of floating vegetation, which of course somewhat diffuses bright light. This species needs soft water. Like many halfbeaks, it is sensitive to deteriorating water quality as well as sudden changes in water parameters. It will thrive on a variety of high-quality live, frozen, and dry foods and, if available, gut-loaded fruit flies. Due to its small size and top-dwelling nature, it is possibly compatible with dwarf shrimp, although it is possible that it will prey on shrimp that are small enough to be eaten. It is completely peaceful with any invertebrates too large to fit in its mouth.

The Three Spot Forest Halfbeak is a somewhat nervous fish and it can easily damage its long lower jaw by bumping into the aquarium glass when startled. This can be prevented by positioning plant vegetation along the sides and back of the aquarium walls. The Three Spot Forest Halfbeak is a proficient jumper, so a secure lid or at least plenty of surface vegetation is necessary in the aquarium.

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
