The original White Cloud Mountain Minnow (Tanichthys albonubes) was first documented in cool, clear mountain streams in southern China. These environments are characterized by gentle flow, well-oxygenated water, and rocky or vegetated surroundings. This longfin variety is selectively bred in captivity for its extended finnage while retaining the species’ natural resilience.

Think of your aquarium as a flowing stream with open space and subtle structure.

Longfin White Clouds thrive in aquariums that balance open swimming areas with structured edges. Use smooth stones and driftwood to create a natural stream-like layout, leaving the center open for schooling behavior.

Plants such as Java Fern, Anubias, and Vallisneria provide gentle cover without restricting movement. Allow some vertical elements to guide the eye upward while maintaining clear horizontal lanes for active swimming.

A slightly higher flow rate helps replicate their natural environment and encourages strong, active movement.

Longfin White Clouds are omnivores and very easy to feed.

Provide high-quality flakes or micro pellets as a staple diet. Supplement with frozen or live foods such as daphnia, baby brine shrimp, or microworms to enhance coloration and vitality.

They are active feeders and will readily accept food throughout the water column.

This species is highly compatible with a wide range of peaceful community fish.

Ideal tank mates include other small, non-aggressive species such as danios, rasboras, small tetras, and Corydoras. Avoid large or aggressive fish that may outcompete them or nip at their extended fins.

Longfin White Clouds are generally safe with adult shrimp.

As with most small fish, very young shrimp may be at risk. Providing dense cover such as moss and fine plants will help improve shrimplet survival.

Breeding is relatively easy in the home aquarium.

They are egg scatterers that will deposit eggs among plants or spawning mops. Adults may consume eggs, so separating them or providing dense plant cover will improve success rates.

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
