The Pink Tuxedo Guppy is a striking selectively bred guppy variety known for its vibrant pink coloration paired with the classic dark “tuxedo” pattern along the lower body. This elegant contrast gives the fish a refined appearance that stands out beautifully in planted aquariums and nano community tanks alike. Their flowing finnage, active swimming behavior, and hardy nature make them an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.

These specimens are tank-bred and carefully raised for health, coloration, and strong adaptability to aquarium life. Pink Tuxedo Guppies thrive in planted aquariums where their vivid colors contrast beautifully against lush greenery, dark substrates, and natural wood elements.

Natural Habitat

The original guppy (Poecilia reticulata) was first documented in northeastern South America, including regions of Venezuela, Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana, and northern Brazil. Wild guppies inhabit warm slow-moving streams, ponds, canals, and shallow waterways rich in vegetation and natural cover.

The Pink Tuxedo Guppy is a selectively bred color and pattern variety developed in captivity to enhance vivid pink coloration combined with the classic tuxedo body pattern. This ornamental strain has been line-bred over generations for strong coloration, finnage quality, and aquarium hardiness.

Aquascaping

Pink Tuxedo Guppies truly shine in heavily planted aquariums with vibrant green plants and natural textures that emphasize their vivid coloration. A planted setup with driftwood, river stones, and scattered leaf litter creates a comfortable and visually dynamic environment while encouraging natural behavior.

Floating plants such as Frogbit, Salvinia, and Red Root Floaters help diffuse lighting and provide a sense of security. Midground plants like Cryptocoryne, Java Fern, and Anubias pair beautifully with stem plants such as Rotala and Ludwigia to create depth and movement within the aquascape.

Aquatic Arts botanicals like Indian Almond Leaves and Alder Cones can help create a more natural ecosystem while encouraging biofilm and microfauna development that benefits fry and shrimp tankmates alike.

Diet and Feeding

Pink Tuxedo Guppies are omnivores that readily accept a wide variety of foods. A balanced diet helps maintain strong coloration, finnage development, and overall vitality.

We recommend feeding a high-quality staple flake or micro pellet daily, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, microworms, and vinegar eels. Occasional protein-rich treats can enhance breeding condition and coloration.

Small frequent feedings are preferred over large feedings to maintain stable water quality in smaller aquariums.

Tank Mates and Compatibility

These guppies are exceptionally peaceful and do well with other small community fish that share similar water parameters. Excellent tankmates include Corydoras, small Rasboras, peaceful Tetras, Kuhli Loaches, Otocinclus, and other peaceful livebearers.

Avoid housing them with fin-nipping species or aggressive fish that may stress or injure their flowing fins. Larger predatory fish should also be avoided.

Their active nature and bright coloration make them excellent centerpiece fish for peaceful planted aquariums.

Shrimp Safe

Pink Tuxedo Guppies are generally considered shrimp-safe with adult Neocaridina and Amano Shrimp. However, like most small omnivorous fish, they may consume newly hatched shrimplets if given the opportunity.

Dense mosses, floating plants, leaf litter, and fine-textured hardscape help provide excellent refuge areas for baby shrimp and improve coexistence in mixed aquariums.

Breeding

Like other guppies, Pink Tuxedo Guppies are livebearers and breed readily in freshwater aquariums. Females give birth to fully formed free-swimming fry approximately every 28–35 days under ideal conditions.

A heavily planted aquarium with mosses and floating plants improves fry survival by providing shelter from adults. Feeding fry powdered foods, baby brine shrimp, and microworms helps encourage rapid healthy growth.

Selective breeding can help preserve the strongest pink coloration and tuxedo pattern traits within future generations.

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
