Natural Habitat:

Pterophyllum scalare originate from the soft, tannin-rich backwaters of the Amazon River basin. These slow-moving habitats are filled with submerged roots, leaf litter, and aquatic plants—conditions that can be recreated in the home aquarium with gentle flow and botanical elements.

Diet and Feeding:

These omnivores do best on a varied diet of high-quality dry, frozen, and live foods.

Recommended Food:
🔹 Ultra Fresh Excellent Bits – Tropical Fish Formula
A premium slow-sinking micro pellet made with whole shrimp, spirulina, and garlic. Supports vibrant coloration, smooth fin development, and overall vitality—perfect for daily feeding.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Best kept with peaceful community fish that won’t nip fins. Avoid small nano fish that may be seen as prey or aggressive species like Tiger Barbs. Good companions include Corydoras, larger Tetras, Rasboras, peaceful Gouramis, and Swordtails.

NOT Shrimp Safe:

⚠️ Caution – May eat very small or baby shrimp. Adult Neocaridina or Amano Shrimp may coexist in large, densely planted tanks.

Breeding:

Angelfish are monogamous, substrate-spawning fish that lay eggs on flat surfaces or broad leaves. Once a bonded pair forms, they can breed readily in a quiet, stable environment. Raising fry is possible in a separate tank with proper care.

Shipping Schedule for this service

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
