Crystalwort is an incredible floating or carpeting plant that can also be used for aquascaping in many creative ways!

Crystalwort (Riccia fluitans) is one of the most popular foreground plants for the serious freshwater aquarium. This plant naturally grows as a mass that floats at the surface of the water. However, it can also be collected in a piece of hair net and tied to driftwood and rockwork. This netting can also be placed and weighed down across the substrate and, in time and with the proper care, it creates a lush green carpet that can cover the entire foreground of the aquarium. It can also be attached under the same sort of netting to cover rocks and driftwood as well. Crystalwort very easy to maintain and propagate.

While not an expert-level plant, Crystalwort requires pruning and maintenance for optimal health. Once established, it tends to grow very quickly and can develop dead spots in its mass when it is overgrown. CO2 supplementation is beneficial and will contribute to much faster growth and stability. However, when it is attached properly and pruned regularly, Crystalwort looks very elegant and can be used to create the illusion of an underwater tree when it is attached to thin branches of driftwood.

Like most plants, Crystalwort will benefit from supplementation such as Seachem Flourish, Flourish Excel, Nitrogen and other plant supplements.

This listing is for the tissue culture form of Crystalwort. Tissue cultures are superior to traditional forms of aquarium plants in many ways. They are produced in a completely sterile environment which eliminates the possibility of them carrying pest snails or algae spores. They have a shelf life (before introduction to the aquarium) of several months if properly maintained and they are housed in a nutrient gel until introduced to the aquarium. To introduce a tissue culture plant to the aquarium, simply rinse off as much nutrient gel as possible, then plant as usual. The nutrient gel will not harm your aquarium.

Packaging may vary. Tissue Culture plants may arrive in bag or cup form.

      Current Handling Time:

      1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
