Natural Habitat:
The wild ancestors of this species hail from slow-moving rivers, marshes, and swamps throughout Southeast Asia, where they inhabit warm, still waters densely populated with aquatic plants.
Aquascaping:
• Plants: Ideal tankmates include Water Wisteria, Anubias, Amazon Sword, and Floating Plants like Salvinia or Frogbit to provide cover and diffuse lighting.
• Hardscape: Use driftwood and smooth rocks to create shaded retreats.

Diet and Feeding:
Lavender Gouramis are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet. Offer high-quality flake or pellet food, along with frozen or live options such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
We recommend Ultra Fresh Royal Mignon Pellets – Shrimp Delight Formula, a small, soft pellet made with real shrimp that enhances color, appetite, and health—perfectly sized for gouramis.
Tank Mates and Compatibility:
This species does well with other peaceful fish such as rasboras, small barbs, tetras, Corydoras, and livebearers. Avoid fin-nipping species and other aggressive gouramis. Males may be territorial with one another in smaller setups.
Shrimp Safe:
May coexist with adult shrimp in a heavily planted tank. Some risk to shrimp fry. Provide plenty of cover if keeping with ornamental shrimp species.
Breeding:
Bubble-nester species. Males build nests at the surface and guard the eggs. Breeding should be done in a dedicated tank, with calm surface water and floating plants to support nest building.

Current Handling Time:

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
