Natural Habitat and Behavior:

These waters are often low in oxygen, which is why the labyrinth organ plays a critical role in their survival. The labyrinth organ allows them to breathe air directly from the surface, meaning they are capable of living in less oxygenated water than many other species.

In the aquarium, Blue Gouramis can often be seen rising to the surface to take a gulp of air, especially in tanks with lower oxygen levels or where water movement is minimal.
