Natural Habitat:
While the Fancy Black Tiger Shrimp is a selectively bred variety, its wild ancestors originate from soft, acidic freshwater habitats in Southeast Asia. These areas are typically shaded with dense leaf litter and minimal flow, creating a calm, tannin-rich environment ideal for shrimp.
Aquascaping Recommendations:

Diet and Feeding:
Fancy Black Tiger Shrimp are excellent scavengers that feed on biofilm, algae, and decaying plant matter in the aquarium. For a well-rounded and nutrient-rich diet, we recommend rotating the following foods:

- Blanched vegetables such as spinach or zucchini (offered sparingly)
A varied diet helps support healthy molting, reproduction, and color vibrancy.
Tank Mates and Compatibility:
These shrimp do best in species-only or shrimp-focused tanks. Suitable tank mates include small, peaceful nano fish like chili rasboras, as well as other non-aggressive Caridina. Avoid keeping them with large or predatory fish.
Shrimp Safe:
Yes, though mixing with other Caridina types may result in interbreeding. Keep this in mind if you're working on maintaining a pure colony.
Breeding:
Breeding Fancy Black Tiger Shrimp is possible in a stable, mature tank with soft, acidic water. Females carry fertilized eggs under their abdomen for 3–4 weeks until hatching. Ensure lots of moss, botanicals, and hiding spots for shrimplets to thrive.
Recommended Tank Parameters:
• Temperature: 68° - 74° F (20° - 23° C)
• pH: 5.5 - 6.5
• KH: 0 - 2
• GH: 4 - 6
• TDS: 100 - 160 ppm
• Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons (10+ gallons preferred for colonies)

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
