Natural Habitat:

Ancistrus species are native to shaded, slow-flowing rivers and tributaries in South America. These areas are rich in driftwood, submerged roots, and botanical debris, all of which contribute to biofilm and algae growth that these plecos naturally consume.

Aquascaping:

• Plants: Hardy species like Java Fern, Anubias, Bolbitis, and Amazon Swords provide cover without being uprooted.
• Hardscape: Include driftwood (especially Malaysian and Mopani), stone caves, and cholla wood to encourage natural grazing behavior and offer secure resting areas.

Diet and Feeding:

These plecos do consume algae, but a balanced, varied diet is essential for their long-term health.

Breeding:
