The Green Lantern Platy Trio is a striking choice for aquarists who want a vibrant, active, and colorful group of livebearers. Each trio includes one male and two females, the perfect breeding ratio for these tank-bred beauties. Known for their bold greenish-blue iridescence and contrasting dark tail and fins, Green Lantern Platies will add a unique flair to your aquarium. This trio is a great option for both beginners and experienced fishkeepers who want to establish a lively breeding group. Individual genders are sometimes available.

What We Love About This Trio:

• A unique iridescent appearance: The shimmering greenish-blue coloration and dark tail make the Green Lantern Platy a true standout in any aquarium.
A harmonious breeding group: The 1 male to 2 female ratio promotes balanced social interactions, reducing stress and encouraging frequent breeding.
Perfect for all experience levels: Hardy and adaptable, Green Lantern Platies are easy to care for, making them perfect for both beginners and those interested in breeding livebearers.
Livebearers that reproduce easily: With the right setup, this trio will naturally establish a self-sustaining population, allowing you to enjoy watching their fry develop into vibrant adults.

What Does Trio Mean?

A "Trio" consists of one male and two females, which is the ideal ratio for successful breeding. Having two females prevents the male from over-harassing a single female, reducing stress and creating a healthier environment for breeding. This trio setup ensures balanced interactions and promotes regular, successful reproduction.

Natural Habitat:

Native to Central America, Green Lantern Platies are selectively bred for their coloration. In the wild, platies are found in slow-moving rivers, ponds, and streams where plant cover and gentle water flow provide ideal living and breeding conditions.

Aquascaping:

• Plants: Include hardy aquatic plants like Anubias, Java Fern, and Hornwort to offer shelter for fry and a natural environment for your Green Lantern Platy Trio.
Hardscape: Use smooth river rocks, driftwood, and caves to create hiding spaces and offer structure for your fish to explore.
Botanicals: Indian almond leaves can provide tannins and enhance the natural look of the tank, though they aren’t necessary for this species.

Diet and Feeding:

Green Lantern Platies are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet. Feed high-quality flakes or pellets as a staple, and offer supplements such as blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach) and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or bloodworms to enhance their health and coloration. A varied diet also supports breeding success.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Green Lantern Platies are peaceful and do well with a variety of small, non-aggressive species, including Corydoras, Guppies, and small Tetras. Avoid housing them with large or aggressive fish that might bully or eat them.

Shrimp Safe:

Adult Green Lantern Platies are generally safe with adult shrimp but may eat shrimp fry. Providing plenty of hiding spaces in the tank can help protect shrimp fry if kept together.

Breeding:

Green Lantern Platies are livebearers, and females will give birth to fully-formed fry. For optimal breeding success, ensure there is plenty of plant cover or dedicated hiding spaces for the fry, as adults may eat them. In a well-planted tank, fry survival rates will be higher.

Care Guidelines:

• Diet: Feed a varied diet of high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with blanched vegetables and live or frozen foods for optimal health and coloration.

Shipping Schedule for this service

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
