The Golden Dojo Loach, a color variant of the Oriental Weatherfish, is a peaceful and highly active bottom-dweller that brings both personality and practical value to your freshwater aquarium. Its golden-yellow coloration and eel-like body make it a standout, while its quirky behavior—including reacting to changes in barometric pressure—adds constant entertainment. These fish are tank-bred and currently 3+ inches in size.

What We Love About This Fish:

  • Striking Coloration: Bright golden body adds bold contrast to planted tanks.

  • Entertaining Behavior: Known as a “weather loach” for its storm-predicting antics.

  • Peaceful Disposition: A calm bottom-dweller suitable for community tanks.

  • Hardy & Adaptable: Tolerates a wide temperature range and is very beginner-friendly.

Natural Habitat:

Native to East Asia, this species is typically found in slow-moving, heavily vegetated waters with soft, muddy bottoms. In aquariums, they thrive with soft substrate, gentle current, and plenty of hiding spots.

Aquascaping:

Plants: Java Fern, Anubias, Vallisneria, Hornwort
Hardscape: Smooth stones, driftwood, fine sand or soft gravel
Botanicals: Indian Almond Leaves and alder cones help mimic their natural environment

Diet and Feeding:

Golden Dojo Loaches are omnivores and active foragers. They readily accept sinking pellets, Repashy gel food, frozen foods (like bloodworms and brine shrimp), and fresh vegetables such as blanched spinach or zucchini.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Peaceful and social, they do best in groups of 3 or more and can be housed with similarly gentle species like danios, rasboras, white clouds, and some goldfish varieties. Avoid aggressive or territorial fish.

Not Shrimp Safe:

May eat shrimp fry or small dwarf shrimp. If cohabiting with shrimp, provide dense plant cover and multiple hiding spots.

Breeding:

Rare in home aquariums. Breeding may require temperature cycling to mimic seasonal changes. They scatter eggs in fine plants or moss.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

Temperature: 50° – 77°F (10° – 25°C)
pH: 6.5 – 8.0
KH: 4 – 12 dKH
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons (larger recommended for groups)

Care Guidelines:

Diet: Omnivorous – appreciates a varied diet of prepared, frozen, and fresh foods
Social Behavior: Very social, best kept in groups
Origin: Tank-Bred
Average Adult Size: 6 – 8 inches (can exceed 10 inches)

Shipping Schedule for this service

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
