The Blue Coral Platy Trio offers the ideal starting group for fishkeepers looking to breed these stunning livebearers. Each trio consists of one male and two females, the perfect ratio for a healthy and thriving breeding group. These tank-bred platies are known for their striking blue hues, which shimmer under aquarium lights and bring a soothing, oceanic beauty to your tank. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced aquarist, this trio brings beauty, activity, and the joy of livebearer breeding to your aquarium. Individual genders are sometimes available.

What We Love About This Trio:

• A splash of vibrant blue: Each Blue Coral Platy adds a mesmerizing blue sheen to your tank, enhancing its visual appeal.
• A harmonious breeding group: The 1 male to 2 female ratio ensures a natural balance, reducing stress on the females while encouraging frequent breeding.
• Great for beginners and breeding enthusiasts: These hardy fish are easy to care for, and the trio setup provides an ideal environment for beginners and experienced breeders alike.
• Livebearers that reproduce easily: With proper care, your trio will establish a self-sustaining population, providing the satisfaction of watching their fry grow and thrive.

What Does Trio Mean?

A "Trio" refers to a group of three Blue Coral Platies: one male and two females. This specific 1:2 ratio is essential for successful breeding. The presence of two females prevents a single female from being over-harassed by the male, reducing stress and promoting a healthier environment for reproduction. This setup gives your fish the best chance for balanced interactions and successful, ongoing breeding.

Natural Habitat:

Though native to Central America, Blue Coral Platies have been selectively bred in captivity for their unique blue coloration. In the wild, platies are found in slow-moving streams and ponds, where plant cover and gentle water flow create ideal breeding and living conditions.

Aquascaping:

• Plants: Include hardy plants like Java Fern, Anubias, or Hornwort to provide shelter for fry and create a natural environment.
• Hardscape: River rocks and driftwood provide hiding spaces and structure for your trio to explore.
• Botanicals: Indian almond leaves can be used to simulate a more natural environment, though not required for this species.

Diet and Feeding:

Blue Coral Platies are omnivores, and their diet should include high-quality flakes or pellets as a staple. Blanched vegetables like spinach or zucchini, along with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp or daphnia, will keep them healthy and vibrant. Variety in their diet helps maintain their bright colors and promotes breeding health.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Blue Coral Platies are peaceful and get along well with other small, non-aggressive fish such as Corydoras, Guppies, and small Tetras. Avoid housing them with large or aggressive species, as platies are vulnerable to being bullied or eaten.

Shrimp Safe:

Adult Blue Coral Platies are generally safe with adult shrimp, but they may snack on shrimp fry. If you plan to keep shrimp, ensure that your tank has plenty of hiding places for the baby shrimp.

Breeding:

Blue Coral Platies are livebearers, meaning the females give birth to fully-formed, free-swimming fry. In a well-planted tank with plenty of cover, the fry have a higher chance of survival, as adult fish may attempt to eat them. With the proper care and setup, your trio will likely reproduce regularly, adding even more color and life to your aquarium.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

Care Guidelines:

• Diet: Feed a balanced mix of high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with vegetables and live or frozen foods.
• Social Behavior: The Blue Coral Platy thrives in social environments. The trio setup provides an ideal breeding group, with one male and two females ensuring a natural, stress-free dynamic.
• Origin: These Blue Coral Platies are tank-bred, making them hardier and better adapted to aquarium life.

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
