The Gold Gourami is a striking, selectively bred variant of the popular Three-Spot Gourami. With its shimmering golden-yellow body, subtle pearlescent sheen, and elegant fins, this peaceful fish adds both beauty and personality to the freshwater aquarium. These tank-bred specimens are hardy, adaptable, and an excellent choice for beginner and experienced aquarists alike.

What We Love About This Fish:

Vibrant Coloration: Bright gold body with a soft iridescent glow.
Peaceful and Hardy: Tolerant of a wide range of water conditions.
Labyrinth Organ: Can breathe atmospheric air—great for low-oxygen environments.
Distinct Personality: Intelligent, interactive, and often curious about their owners.

Natural Habitat:

The wild form of Trichopodus trichopterus originates from calm, slow-moving waters in Southeast Asia, such as rice paddies, marshes, and slow streams. These environments are typically dense with vegetation, driftwood, and leaf litter, providing cover and foraging opportunities.

Aquascaping:

Plants: Floating plants like Amazon Frogbit or Duckweed for shade; rooted plants like Java Fern, Anubias, or Cryptocoryne.
Hardscape: Use driftwood, smooth river rocks, and low caves to provide hiding areas.
Botanicals: Indian Almond Leaves and Alder Cones help mimic natural tannin-rich environments and promote health.

Diet and Feeding:

Gold Gouramis are omnivorous and will readily accept high-quality flake foods, floating pellets, and freeze-dried or frozen treats like bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp. Occasional live food will help enhance color and vitality.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Gold Gouramis are generally peaceful but may show mild territorial behavior, especially males. Avoid fin-nipping tank mates or other gouramis in smaller tanks. Suitable tank mates include peaceful tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, and larger shrimp species.

Shrimp Safe?:

Caution advised. While they may coexist peacefully with adult Amano shrimp, smaller ornamental shrimp and their fry may be at risk of being eaten.

Breeding:

Gold Gouramis are bubble nest builders. Males create floating nests and court females. A separate breeding tank with gentle filtration and floating plants is recommended for best success. Remove adults once eggs are laid to protect the fry.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

Temperature: 72° - 82° F (22° - 28° C)
pH: 6.5 - 7.5
KH: 3 - 8 dKH
Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons

Care Guidelines:

Diet: Omnivore – provide a mix of dry, frozen, and live foods.
Social Behavior: Peaceful with caution—best kept singly or in a well-planned community.
Origin: Tank-bred
Average Adult Size: 4 – 6 inches (10 – 15 cm)
Average Purchase Size: 1.5 – 2.5 inches (3.8 – 6.3 cm)

Shipping Schedule for this service

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
