Benefits of Keeping Isopods with Other Terrarium Inhabitants

Keeping Giant Canyon Isopods with other terrarium dwellers can enhance the overall health and well-being of your ecosystem:

Bioactive Cleaning Crew:
Giant Canyon Isopods are efficient scavengers, helping to break down organic matter, including leftover food, decaying plant material, and feces. Their activity helps maintain a clean and hygienic environment within the terrarium, reducing the risk of bacterial growth and foul odors.

Nutrient Cycling:
By consuming organic debris, Giant Canyon Isopods play a vital role in nutrient cycling within the terrarium. Their waste enriches the substrate with essential nutrients, benefiting plants and other organisms and creating a balanced, self-sustaining environment.

Aeration of Substrate:
As these isopods burrow and move through the substrate, they help aerate it, improving soil structure, enhancing drainage, and promoting the circulation of air and water. This creates optimal conditions for plant roots and beneficial microorganisms.

Reduced Waste Accumulation:
By consuming organic waste, Giant Canyon Isopods help reduce the buildup of waste materials in the terrarium. This contributes to a cleaner, healthier environment and reduces the frequency of substrate changes and maintenance tasks for the keeper.

Natural Behavior Stimulation:
The presence of isopods can stimulate natural foraging behaviors in other terrarium inhabitants, such as amphibians and reptiles. This provides enrichment and mental stimulation, contributing to the overall well-being of your pets.

Ecosystem Balance:
Introducing Giant Canyon Isopods to your terrarium creates a mini-ecosystem where different organisms interact and support each other. This fosters a balanced and harmonious environment, resembling natural habitats, which benefits the health and vitality of all terrarium inhabitants.

In summary, keeping Giant Canyon Isopods with other terrarium inhabitants offers numerous benefits, including waste management, nutrient cycling, substrate aeration, and natural behavior stimulation. By fostering a bioactive ecosystem, terrarium keepers can create a healthier and more sustainable environment for all their pets to thrive in.

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
