The Albino Cherry Barb is a radiant, tank-bred variant of the beloved Cherry Barb, showcasing a warm peach-gold body with pinkish highlights and striking ruby-red eyes. This peaceful schooling fish brings subtle elegance and activity to planted community aquariums. Its gentle temperament and glowing coloration make it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists seeking harmony and color in the same fish.
What We Love About This Fish:
• Soft, Luminous Coloration: Warm gold and coral tones accented by vivid red eyes.
• Peaceful Nature: Perfect for planted community aquariums with calm, compatible species.
• Tank-Bred Strength: Raised entirely in aquariums for exceptional health and adaptability.
• Active Schooling Behavior: Graceful movement and coordinated swimming bring life to the midwater zone.
Natural Habitat:
The wild-type Puntius titteya originates from the shaded, plant-rich forest streams of Sri Lanka, where the water is soft, warm, and slow-moving. The Albino variety is a tank-bred morph, selectively developed to highlight the species’ natural pink and orange pigments. Though this color form does not occur in the wild, it maintains the same peaceful disposition and lively activity that have made Cherry Barbs a staple of freshwater aquariums for generations.
Aquascaping:
• Plants: Excellent with Java Fern, Anubias, Cryptocoryne, and stem plants like Ludwigia or Hygrophila.
• Hardscape: Include fine gravel or sand substrate, driftwood, and smooth stones for structure and shade.
• Botanicals: Add Indian Almond Leaves or Alder Cones to create a soft, natural environment and enrich water with tannins. Aquatic Arts Botanical Combo Pack is a curated selection of beautiful and beneficial leave litter.
Diet and Feeding:
The Albino Cherry Barb is an omnivore that thrives on a balanced, high-quality diet. Offer Ultra Fresh Tropical Excellent Bits – Shrimp Delights as the daily staple. Supplement occasionally with live or frozen foods such as Moina fleas, daphnia, and brine shrimp to encourage vibrant coloration, strong immunity, and breeding readiness.
Tank Mates and Compatibility:
A peaceful community species that should be kept in groups of six or more. Excellent companions include rasboras, small tetras, Corydoras catfish, and dwarf gouramis. Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species to preserve their long fins and stress-free behavior.
Shrimp Compatibility:
Generally safe with adult Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp. Small shrimp fry may be eaten, so provide dense moss or plant cover for protection.
Breeding:
An easy-to-breed egg scatterer that spawns readily in clean, well-maintained tanks. Provide fine-leaved plants or spawning mops and remove adults after spawning to protect the eggs. Fry can be raised on infusoria or finely crushed food once they become free-swimming.
Recommended Tank Parameters:
• Temperature: 72° – 80°F (22° – 27°C)
• pH: 6.5– 7.5
• KH: 2 – 10 dKH
• Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons
Care Guidelines:

What makes Albino Cherry Barbs different from regular Cherry Barbs?
The biggest difference is appearance. Albino Cherry Barbs have a pale golden to peach body with red or pink eyes instead of the deep reds and browns of wild-type fish. They keep the same behavior and personality, just with a lighter, softer look.
Are Albino Cherry Barbs peaceful?
Yes. They’re calm, social fish that do very well in community tanks. Like standard Cherry Barbs, they’re known for being easygoing and rarely cause issues with tank mates.
How many Albino Cherry Barbs should be kept together?
They’re schooling fish and do best in groups of at least 6. Larger groups help them feel secure and bring out more natural movement and interaction.
Do Albino Cherry Barbs act differently than regular Cherry Barbs?
No real difference in behavior. They’re active without being frantic and spend most of their time swimming in the middle of the tank, occasionally darting through plants.
Are Albino Cherry Barbs good for planted aquariums?
Very much so. They won’t damage plants and actually look great against green foliage. Planted tanks also help them feel more comfortable and confident.
What do Albino Cherry Barbs eat?
They’re easy eaters. High-quality flakes or small pellets work well, along with occasional frozen or live foods like brine shrimp or daphnia for variety.
Are Albino Cherry Barbs hardy?
Yes. Being tank bred makes a big difference. They adapt well to typical aquarium conditions as long as water parameters are stable and the tank is properly cycled.
Can Albino Cherry Barbs be kept with shrimp?
Adult shrimp are usually fine. Very small shrimp or newly hatched fry may be eaten, but they’re generally considered shrimp-compatible in established tanks with cover.
Do Albino Cherry Barbs breed easily?
They can breed in home aquariums, especially in planted setups. Eggs are scattered among plants, and adults do not guard them, so a separate breeding setup is best if you’re aiming to raise fry.
Who are Albino Cherry Barbs best suited for?
They’re a great choice for both beginners and experienced hobbyists. If you want a peaceful schooling fish with a lighter, eye-catching look that still behaves like a classic community fish, Albino Cherry Barbs are an excellent option.

Shipping Schedule for this service
Current Handling Time:
1-9 business days
Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
Shipping Rate
Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
