Product Description
The Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster lalius) is a dazzling color variant of the beloved Dwarf Gourami, known for its intense, almost electric blue hue with subtle red striping. This tank-bred fish is a popular choice for community aquariums due to its small size, hardy nature, and captivating color. Its labyrinth organ enables it to breathe air from the water’s surface, making it well-suited to various water conditions and an ideal choice for both novice and experienced aquarists.
What We Love About This Fish:
- Vibrant Neon Blue Coloration: Eye-catching blue with hints of red that stands out in any tank.
- Compact and Peaceful: Great for smaller tanks and community setups.
- Labyrinth Fish: Uses a labyrinth organ to breathe air, providing resilience in various conditions.
- Low-Maintenance: Simple care needs, making it ideal for beginners.
Natural Habitat and Behavior
In the wild, Neon Blue Dwarf Gouramis are found in slow-moving, densely vegetated waters in South Asia, where they thrive in low-oxygen environments. In the aquarium, they often rise to the surface for a gulp of air, a common behavior among labyrinth fish. Known for their peaceful nature, they are a great fit for community aquariums, although males may exhibit mild territorial tendencies during breeding.
Aquascaping and Tank Setup
Neon Blue Dwarf Gouramis do best in aquariums with plenty of cover and open swimming areas. Floating plants, such as Duckweed and Salvinia, are particularly appreciated, as they create shaded spots near the water surface where these gouramis feel at home. Lower tank plants like Java Moss, Anubias, and Cryptocoryne help recreate a natural setting. For substrate, use sand or smooth gravel to create a safe and comfortable environment.
Adding driftwood, rocks, and live plants throughout the tank provides hiding spots, reduces stress, and encourages the Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami to display its vibrant coloration.
Diet and Feeding
As omnivores, Neon Blue Dwarf Gouramis enjoy a varied diet. They readily consume high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms. To maintain vibrant color and optimal health, offer a mix of protein-rich foods and plant-based options, such as spirulina flakes. These fish may also nibble on algae, contributing to a cleaner aquarium environment.
Labyrinth Fish Feature
The Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami is part of the labyrinth fish family, which allows it to breathe air directly from the water’s surface. This unique ability enables it to thrive in low-oxygen environments and makes it highly adaptable to a range of water conditions. Though they can tolerate variations, keeping water quality stable and providing a gentle flow is ideal.
Tank Mates and Compatibility
Neon Blue Dwarf Gouramis are peaceful fish that integrate well with other non-aggressive species. Suitable tank mates include tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and small, peaceful loaches. Avoid housing them with fin-nipping or aggressive fish, as this may stress the gourami. Ensuring plenty of space and hiding spots minimizes any territorial behavior.

Shipping Schedule for this service
Current Handling Time:
1-9 business days
Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
Shipping Rate
Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
