Calico Sunkist Shrimp: A Vibrant and Hardy Addition
The Calico Sunkist Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) is a unique and stunning freshwater shrimp, developed over the last four years with significant production ramping up in late 2021. Originally, the shrimp’s multicolor pattern was not as rich, but the latest generation boasts enhanced, vibrant color patterns. This shrimp’s striking orange hue, positioned between red and yellow, is reminiscent of the patterns seen in Calico goldfish, with each shrimp displaying a unique combination of orange, red, and pumpkin tones. The breeder selected outstanding hues from various ranks, without focusing solely on male or female genetics, to create a truly diverse and eye-catching variety. The shrimp’s distinctive, multicolor appearance is what earned it the name “Calico Sunkist Shrimp,” making it a standout addition to any aquarium.
What We Like About This Shrimp:
- Vibrant Calico Coloration: Bright orange body speckled with red and yellow.
- Tank-Bred for Hardiness: Healthier shrimp, adaptable to various conditions.
- Natural Tank Cleaners: Scavengers that help keep aquariums clean by consuming algae, biofilm, and detritus.
- Peaceful and Easy to Care For: Compatible with other peaceful tank mates.
Aquascaping Tips:
Incorporate live plants like Anubias, Java Moss, or Java Fern for shelter and grazing. Driftwood, rocks, and leaf litter create natural surfaces for biofilm and hiding spots, enhancing the shrimp’s habitat and your aquascape's aesthetic.
Diet and Feeding:
Calico Sunkist Shrimp are scavengers that feed continually, requiring minimal supplemental feeding in a well-established aquarium rich in algae, biofilm, or decaying plant matter. In newer aquariums with less natural food available, provide high-quality dry foods with high plant content multiple times daily.
Recommended Supplements:
- Blanched vegetables (such as spinach and zucchini): A great source of fiber and vitamins, enhancing shrimp health and digestion.
- Aquatic Arts Snowflake Premium Shrimp Food: A nutritious treat that promotes healthy growth and activity.
- Aquatic Arts Pollen Granules Premium Shrimp Food: An excellent supplement that enhances overall health and vitality.
Try these supplements, and your shrimp will thank you with their vibrant colors and lively behavior!
Tank Mates: Ideal tank mates include other Neocaridina shrimp, small tetras, rasboras, dwarf corydoras, and otocinclus catfish. Avoid aggressive or large fish.

Shipping Schedule for this service
Current Handling Time:
1-9 business days
Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
Shipping Rate
Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
