The Blueberry Snail is a rare and vibrant freshwater snail, newly discovered and prized for its striking coloration and beneficial tank-cleaning behavior.
Description:
The Blueberry Snail (Viviparus Sp.) is a captivating freshwater snail known for its dark blue body adorned with orangey-gold flecks. Native to the rivers and tributaries around Papua, Indonesia, this species stands out in any aquarium with its unique coloration. As a live-bearing species, Blueberry Snails give birth to one baby snail every 1-3 weeks, making them a fascinating addition to your aquatic setup. These snails are perfect for both beginners and advanced hobbyists due to their easy care requirements and peaceful nature. Just be sure to have plenty of biofilm in the tank for them to nibble on.
What We Like About This Snail:
- Striking Coloration: Dark blue body with orange-gold flecks.
- Live-bearing: Females give birth to one baby snail every 1-3 weeks.
- Tank Cleaners: Help keep the tank clean by eating algae and detritus.
- Beginner-Friendly: Easy to care for and adaptable to various conditions.
Aquascaping:
Blueberry Snails thrive in well-planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots and soft substrates. They are particularly fond of stem plants and sandy bottoms. A tank with a low flow filter, covered intake to prevent snails from getting sucked in, is ideal for their habitat.
Botanicals:
Incorporating botanicals such as Indian Almond Leaves, Catappa Bark, and Alder Cones can enrich the aquarium environment for Blueberry Snails. These botanicals release beneficial tannins and humic substances, creating a more natural habitat. They also provide additional hiding spots and grazing areas, promoting natural behavior and enhancing the overall health of your snails.
Shrimp and Fish Compatibility:
Blueberry Snails are peaceful and can coexist with other snails, invertebrates, and community fish such as Barbs, Guppies, Tetras, and other schooling fish. Their gentle nature makes them a safe addition to a diverse tank.
Diet:
Blueberry Snails are omnivorous and thrive on a diet of spirulina flake food, algae wafers, decaying plant leaves, and detritus. They also enjoy algae growing on aquarium surfaces, helping to keep the tank clean and balanced.

Shipping Schedule for this service
Current Handling Time:
1-9 business days
Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
Shipping Rate
Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
