Olive Jade Mystery Snails (Pomacea bridgesii) - Tank-Bred!
- In stock, ready to ship
- Backordered, shipping soon
This less common mystery snail boasts a gold shell with a black body, resulting in a greenish-gold overall appearance!
Mystery Snails are generally much more active and display more playful behavior than other types of freshwater snails. They are almost constantly scaling the walls of the aquarium, extending their antennae in search of food. They will climb up to the water line in to breathe air, so it's a good idea to make sure the water line in your aquarium isn't too high. When a Mystery Snail reaches the top of a wall or structure, it will often let go of the wall and glide rapidly downward until it crashes into plants or into the substrate below, often eliciting a "Weeee!" sound from any witnesses.
We try to ship mostly young Mystery Snails to customers so that they can be kept and enjoyed for more of their lifespan; thus, most of our Mystery Snails will arrive at a smaller size (around .25 - 1.5 inches (1.3 - 5 cm) in diameter). They have voracious appetites and grow in size VERY quickly if they are fed well; a young Mystery Snail can double in size in a matter of weeks to months. As with all freshwater snails, Mystery Snails are very sensitive to copper, so it's advisable to monitor your copper levels if you use tap water in your tank.
NOTE: If you search the Internet for Mystery Snails, many results will state that these are the same species as Apple Snails. These are NOT Apple Snails, though they do resemble them in shape and belong to the same family. Apple Snails are considered an invasive species and are illegal to own in the United States. Our Mystery Snails do not grow to the tremendous size that Apple Snails do (often as big as an apple).

What makes Olive Jade Mystery Snails different from other colors?
Olive Jade Mystery Snails have a deep olive-to-green shell tone that can shift slightly depending on lighting and substrate. They’re more muted and earthy than black or blue varieties, which gives them a very natural look in planted tanks.
Are Olive Jade Mystery Snails tank bred?
Yes. These snails are tank bred, meaning they’re already adapted to aquarium life and tend to acclimate smoothly to home setups.
Do Olive Jade Mystery Snails behave differently than other Mystery Snail colors?
No. Color doesn’t affect behavior. They’re just as active, curious, and peaceful as other Mystery Snails.
Are Olive Jade Mystery Snails good algae eaters?
They help with soft algae, biofilm, and leftover food. They’re best thought of as part of a clean-up crew rather than a sole algae solution.
Are Olive Jade Mystery Snails safe with fish and shrimp?
Yes. They’re completely peaceful and won’t harm fish, shrimp, or healthy plants.
How big do Olive Jade Mystery Snails get?
They typically reach around 2 inches in shell diameter. Growth is steady when they have enough food and minerals.
What do Olive Jade Mystery Snails eat?
They’ll graze naturally, but supplemental feeding helps long-term health. Dedicated snail foods and a varied diet support good growth and activity.
Do Olive Jade Mystery Snails need calcium for shell health?
Yes. Calcium is important for strong shell growth. Cuttlebone and calcium-rich foods help prevent shell thinning, pitting, or erosion over time.
Will shell imperfections improve over time?
Older shell marks won’t disappear, but new growth can come in smooth and healthy with proper nutrition, calcium, and stable water conditions.
Will Olive Jade Mystery Snails reproduce in my tank?
They can. If both males and females are present, egg clutches may be laid above the waterline. Eggs are easy to manage if you don’t want babies.
Shipping, Arrival & Acclimation
How are Olive Jade Mystery Snails shipped?
They’re packed specifically for live arrival, with insulation and temperature control used when needed. Shipping methods prioritize animal health over speed.
What should I do as soon as my snail arrives?
Open the box promptly and inspect the snail while it’s still sealed in the bag. It’s normal for Mystery Snails to arrive inactive or closed up after transit.
How should I acclimate Olive Jade Mystery Snails?
A slow acclimation works best. Gradually introduce tank water to the bag water so the snail can adjust to temperature and water chemistry changes.
Is drip acclimation recommended for Mystery Snails?
Yes. Drip acclimation helps reduce stress and supports healthy shell and body adjustment, especially if your water parameters differ from the shipping water.
Should I expect immediate movement after adding the snail to the tank?
Not always. Some Mystery Snails begin exploring right away, while others may take several hours to emerge. Both are normal behaviors.
How can I tell if the snail is alive after arrival?
If the operculum (trap door) is tightly closed, that’s usually a good sign. Once settled, most snails will slowly emerge and begin grazing.
Should I feed right away after acclimation?
You can wait a day. Most snails will begin grazing on biofilm naturally before needing supplemental food.
What tanks are best for newly arrived Mystery Snails?
Established, fully cycled tanks with stable parameters and available biofilm are ideal. Stable conditions matter more than exact numbers.

Shipping Schedule for this service
Current Handling Time:
1-9 business days
Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
Shipping Rate
Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
