The Yellow Nose Sulawesi Shrimp is a highly distinctive and sought-after Caridina species known for its subtle, translucent body and signature yellow facial marking. This shrimp brings a refined and understated presence to the aquarium, standing out not through bold color alone, but through contrast, movement, and detail.

Bred in-house at Aquatic Arts, these shrimp represent carefully maintained Sulawesi stock with a focus on stability, health, and long-term success in captivity. When provided with proper parameters and a mature environment, they display natural grazing behavior and thrive within a well-balanced system.

This is a species best suited for aquarists who appreciate precision, stability, and the art of maintaining a specialized ecosystem.

Sulawesi shrimp originate from ancient lakes in Indonesia, where water conditions are warm, stable, and alkaline with high mineral content.

These environments are characterized by rocky substrates, minimal plant growth, and surfaces rich in biofilm. The Yellow Nose Sulawesi Shrimp is adapted to these consistent conditions, making stability in the aquarium critical for long-term success.

Structure: Build the layout around porous rock such as lava stone or textured dark stone. These surfaces are not just visual elements, they become living layers where biofilm develops and shrimp spend most of their time grazing

Substrate: Use an inert or mineral-supporting substrate that helps maintain stable, alkaline conditions. The goal is consistency and balance rather than visual density

Botanicals: Not required for Sulawesi shrimp. If used, they should be introduced in very small amounts. Excessive use can lower pH and disrupt the stable, mineral-rich conditions these shrimp depend on

Aquatic plants are typically not used in Sulawesi setups. Most common aquarium plants do not tolerate the higher temperature and alkaline water required by these shrimp, and often fail to thrive in these conditions.

This environment is built with intention. Open space, clean structure, and stability take priority. As biofilm develops across rock surfaces, the Yellow Nose Sulawesi Shrimp move methodically through the scape, their subtle coloration becoming more defined the less the environment competes for attention.

Yellow Nose Sulawesi Shrimp rely heavily on naturally occurring biofilm but should be supplemented regularly to support long-term health.

Provide high-quality shrimp foods such as sinking pellets, snowflake foods, and biofilm-promoting options. These foods help maintain consistent nutrition in a controlled environment where natural grazing alone may not be sufficient.

Calcium is essential for proper molting and shell development. This can be supported through mineral-rich water, specialized shrimp foods, or calcium-based supplements.

Occasional feeding with protein-rich foods helps support growth and successful molts, but should be offered in moderation to maintain water quality and system stability.

Best kept in species-only or carefully selected peaceful setups.

Avoid fish that may prey on shrimp or outcompete them for food. Sulawesi shrimp are sensitive to stress and perform best in stable, low-competition environments.

you can keep other sulawesi inverts like Rabbit snails which they co exsist very well.

Can be kept with other Sulawesi shrimp species if parameters align. Mixing with Neocaridina or other Caridina species is not recommended due to differing water requirements.

Sulawesi shrimp are more challenging to breed than Neocaridina species and require stable, high-temperature, and alkaline conditions.

They carry eggs under the abdomen, and offspring hatch as miniature versions of the adults. Successful breeding depends heavily on consistency and water quality.

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.
