Discover Aquatic Arts

Aquatic Arts works with freshwater aquarium life every day, from the animals and plants we breed and grow ourselves to the species we receive from breeders, farms, suppliers, and collection sources around the world. Along the way, we have developed our own ideas about what it means to keep aquaria, what responsibility comes with caring for living things, and what role an aquarium company should play in the hobby.

There is much more to Aquatic Arts than can reasonably be told on a single About page, so we have separated the parts of our company that deserve a closer look. You can explore how we think about aquarium keeping, where our animals come from, what happens while they are in our care, and how we stand behind them when they leave us.

What Aquatic Arts Means

There are many arts to keeping aquaria because not every aquarist sets out with the same goal. Some of us are drawn to aquascaping, some to breeding, some to creating balanced ecosystems, and many of us discover entirely new parts of the hobby as our experience grows.

For us, Aquatic Arts has come to represent four ideas that guide how we participate in the hobby: Arts, Responsibility, Teaching, and Sustainability.

We Are Breeders

Aquatic Arts breeds and grows a portion of the aquarium life we offer, and we identify those products with our Bred by Aquatic Arts and Grown by Aquatic Arts designations. Maintaining our own production gives us the opportunity to observe animals and plants through stages of their lives that we would never experience by simply receiving a finished product for resale.

We do not breed or grow everything we sell, and we think being clear about that distinction makes our own production labels more meaningful.

Where Our Animals Come From

Aquarium animals can reach the hobby through very different paths. Some are produced by independent breeders, some by domestic or international farms, some through our own breeding programs, and some species continue to originate from natural populations.

Our sourcing designations, including Bred by Aquatic Arts, Locally Bred, USA Bred, Tank-Bred, F1 Tank-Bred, and Collected, are intended to help customers understand those differences rather than treating every animal as though it has the same history.

From Our Aquariums to Yours

Where an animal comes from is only the beginning of its journey through Aquatic Arts. Incoming livestock needs time to settle after transportation, while observation, feeding, quarantine, conditioning, and the biology of the species all influence what happens before an animal is ready to continue on to another aquarium.

From receiving livestock through selecting and packing an individual animal for an order, our approach recognizes that live aquarium animals cannot be handled like conventional inventory. The decisions we make while an animal is in our care become our part of a much longer journey.

Our 100% Live Arrival Guarantee

Preparing healthy livestock for transportation is only part of shipping live animals. Weather, carrier networks, transit conditions, and the way individual animals respond to travel introduce variables that no livestock shipper can completely eliminate, which is why every Aquatic Arts livestock order is backed by our 100% Live Arrival Guarantee.

The guarantee explains how we stand behind the animals we ship, what customers should do when an order arrives, and how we help when a live-arrival problem occurs.

Our History

There Is More to the Aquarium Than What You See Through the Glass

Aquatic Arts did not become what it is today all at once. Our approach to breeding, sourcing, livestock care, education, and the aquarium hobby has developed through years of experience and change.

Our history is the story of how those pieces came together and how Aquatic Arts continues to evolve.
