The Red Dragon "Mamberamo River" Rainbowfish: A Fiery Display of Color in Your Aquarium!

The Red Dragon "Mamberamo River" Rainbowfish (Glossolepis multisquamata) is a striking, tank-bred species sourced from a domestic supplier. While these rainbowfish are tank-bred, their wild origins trace back to the pristine waters of the Mamberamo River in Papua New Guinea. Known for their vibrant red hues and shimmering scales, these fish bring a stunning pop of color to any freshwater aquarium. With a peaceful nature and active swimming style, these rainbowfish are ideal for creating a lively, harmonious aquatic community.

What We Love About This Fish:

  • Vivid Red Coloration: Intense red body with shimmering metallic scales.
  • Schooling Fish: Thrives in groups of 3 or more, encouraging natural behaviors and vibrant color display.
  • Tank-Bred for Hardiness: Raised by a domestic supplier, ensuring adaptability to various aquarium conditions.
  • Peaceful Nature: Ideal for community tanks with other peaceful species.

Schooling and Social Behavior:

Red Dragon Rainbowfish are happiest when kept in schools of 3 or more. These social fish display their best behavior and most brilliant colors when swimming together. In groups, they interact naturally, forming tight schools that enhance both their activity level and coloration. Keeping them in smaller groups or alone may lead to stress and dull coloration.

Aquascaping for Maximum Impact:

To accommodate their active swimming habits, Red Dragon Rainbowfish require plenty of open swimming space. However, they also appreciate the security of well-planted areas. Use plants like Vallisneria, Anubias, and Cryptocoryne, along with driftwood and rock formations, to replicate their natural habitat and make them feel at home.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

With their peaceful disposition, Red Dragon Rainbowfish make great companions for other non-aggressive fish. They do particularly well in community tanks with other rainbowfish, tetras, rasboras, and peaceful bottom dwellers such as Corydoras catfish. Avoid pairing them with aggressive or fin-nipping species.

Diet:

Red Dragon Rainbowfish are omnivores and require a varied diet to maintain their health and vibrant coloration. Feed them high-quality flake food, micro pellets, and supplement with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. A varied diet ensures their long-term health and liveliness.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

  • Temperature: 74° - 82° F (23° - 28° C)
  • pH: 6.8 - 7.8 (prefer slightly alkaline water)
  • KH: 4 - 12 dKH
  • Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons (for a group of 3 or more)

Care Guidelines:

  • Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet of high-quality flake, pellets, and live or frozen foods.
  • Social Behavior: Schooling; keep in groups of at least 3 for optimal health and coloration.

Shipping Schedule for this service

UPS 1 Day: Monday through Thursday

Current Handling Time:

1-9 business days

Here at Aquatic Arts, we consider the welfare of the live animals we are shipping to be of the foremost importance. This process is much more involved than simply creating a shipping label and affixing it to a box. Depending on the order, it takes from 4 to 7 people to complete this process properly. We check the weather conditions here where they fly out of the Indianapolis UPS facility and the destination for each shipment. We start early each morning and go through a multi-step process to have the day's shipments prepared in time for the UPS pickup. The volume of orders in our system also affects the processing time. Therefore our stated handling time is 1-9 business days.

Shipping Rate

Pricing is by size of package needed to fill entire order and distance it must travel. It will be calculated at checkout.
