Asian Liverwort (Monosolenium tenerum), 3.6 x 3.6 inch Mat
Asian Liverwort (Monosolenium tenerum), also incorrectly identified as Pellia, is a rare, but very popular and attractive species of liverwort for the freshwater aquarium. This is a great plant to keep in any freshwater aquarium due to its low lighting requirements and ease of care. It grows horizontally in bushy patches that are always a favorite hiding place for shrimp and fish fry. It also provides cultivation areas for tiny live food sources such as infusoria and biofilm. Once established in the aquarium, Asian Liverwort grows much more quickly than other low-light mosses and fern gametophytes. In fact, it requires some trimming as it grows or else the older areas of the plant will recede or die. Trimming this plant will also keep it from overgrowing other plants that have a slower growth rate.
We offer this moss in a solid stainless steel mat form that makes it easy to attach and begin propagating on rocks, driftwood, or aquarium walls and substrate. The moss is grown outdoors in Taiwan, and may contain a few pest snails or terrestrial bugs (the bugs will not survive or reproduce underwater).
This is a very easy plant to keep without much extra care, but like all plants, it can benefit from CO2 supplementation, although this is not required. Unlike many mosses, it typically does respond positively to most chemical plant supplements such as Seachem Flourish Excel. Many aquarists report success with Asian Liverwort purely through keeping a well-maintained aquarium with no supplementation.
